Is something eating my hydrangea?

I have a row of hydrangeas but just one appears to be being eaten. I’ve never had this problem in the years before. Looks like nibbles on the edge and in the centre of the leaves. What do you suggest? Thanks

Leaf cutter bee maybe ? Can you post a pic ?
I love watching leaf cutter bees, I don’t mind the missing chunks from my roses, as the bees are so lovely. They are solitary and don’t sting.

I’ve posted a pic, may take some time to appear.

I have a few that are the same this year, I went out just after dusk and found loads of snails and a few caterpillars happily munching away. I’ve put a snail trap in now but I’m still having to relocate the caterpillars every night when they appear from nowhere.

It’s only that one plant though, I’ll have a look later.

My climbing hydrangea has died - started noticing holes in the leaves then they started drying out even though it was well watered. Looked it up & think it’s weevils 😩

Not leaf cutter bees, it looks like slugs or snails (or some sort of caterpillar but most probably one of the first two as you would see caterpillars) . You can try putting crushed shells or various other things that they don’t like around the bottom of the plant.

Thanks for this. It just seems strange that it’s this one plant when I have a whole row of them. I haven’t seen any slugs, snails or caterpillars but will put some crushed egg shells down and see if it stops.

You can also make beer traps, I think you put beer in a saucer or lid and they get sloshed and drown, but I have never done this I someone else will advise. They do seem to prefer one plant to other sometimes, I don’t have a big slug problem but my Dahlias are a bit munched in places. I don’t get many snails either and rather like them hence no beer traps 🙂
