Moving my plum tree

Looking for some advice from people who know what they are doing!
We are in the process of redesigning our small garden. Its approx 14 meters by 15 meters, flat but on a hill and surrounded by fields, so even though it is small it feels very open and we have good light,
I would like to move a mature plum tree, do you think this is possible without killing it? It is a lovely tree approx 7 ft tall and produces tons of plums, but it is completely the wrong spot in the garden We already have two apple trees a cherry and two pear trees, a bit too many for the space really, but I love them.
Any thoughts much appriciated.

I’d be wary of- and wait till at least Nov to move it

Try -if not you can replace easily enough

Don't do it now. You need to wait until late autumn when the tree is dormant.

You can start planning now though. You'll need to dig a good big hole at the new site and add plenty of organic matter. When you dig out the tree, preserve as much of the root system as you can. This will mean moving the tree with a decent-sized rootball, which will be heavy, so maybe see if you can rope in a friend or two to help move it safely.

Be prepared for the possibility that the tree may not survive. I've successfully moved many plants but lost one or two over the years.

This page has some good tips - but note it's a New Zealand site so when they say April might be too early they mean roughly October, give or take. This ties in with the advice in the previous post to wait until at least November. Pruning & transplanting a plum tree | Growing Guides | Daltons

You couldn't have picked a worse time of year to move a tree if you tried.

Another chiming in to say you may as well burn it to the ground now if you're planning on digging it up before October/November.

Just to clarify, I was not intending to move it now, I realise you have to wait till autumn/ early winter to move them, just asking advice and to ses if anyone had successfully done it.

We’ve successfully moved a damson tree , it took a couple of years to fruit again but it’s fine . It wasn’t as big as your plum though 10 feet I think .
