Where to buy mature trees?

We are looking to purchase a mature magnolia within the next year and I have no idea where to look. Most online retailers seem to sell saplings but we want something a bit more established so we don’t have to wait a decade to enjoy it! Any suggestions?

Thanks all for these tips, I am happy to wait and plant at the right time of year, I just want to make sure we buy from a reputable source. I still would love to have it in pride of place in the middle of the garden-will see if that’s possible. I want to surround her with flowers and bulbs and make a real feature.

Make sure that you take a lot of advice. The more mature the tree is the more difficult it is to plant/transplant as they need ever more complex (and large) root structures. Mature trees often fail becusee either they have been cut off from their root structure when moved or because the development of their root structure has been constrained.

Hmm maybe we should go for a younger one? The more I research the more difficult it seems to plant a mature tree successfully.
