Here he is. I’m not expecting avocados it was just the challenge of getting the stone to grow. What do I do now, he’s about 18mths old.

Yes I did one to this kind of stage and I forget what happened to it. I think I might have done away with it because it wasn’t actually that attractive! Satisfying to have grown it though. I tried the same with a mango and got the seed to sprout but it didn’t do anything in the soil.

According to Grok it’s in the tree growing stage and focusing on roots, stems, and leaves rather than reproduction. It says to be patient as it may not produce fruit until 7-10 years. It mentions good sunlight and good draining soil. Well done for getting it to grow x

I grew an avocado a few years ago, but we moved house and it stayed in the garden. It looked a lot like yours, tall, glossy leaves but no sign of flowers or fruit.

Keep going with it and let us know!

If you're in London, plant it outside on a south facing wall.

You will never get avocados because avocado trees are hermaphroditic. The tree produces both male and female flowers but not at the same time, to get avocados you needs several trees for successful pollination and I think they meed to be different varieties as they produce the male and females flowers at different times. The trees are quite attractive when they get big with glossy green leaves.

Yes once' never since. It grew quite large then I killed ot leaving it outside in cold weather.
They are not frost hardy. One frost will finish it off.

I’m one of those weird people who dry and plant all sorts of pips, stones and seeds from fruit I’ve eaten to see what happens.

I’ve currently got one lemon ‘shrub’, a few oranges and two avocados. They do look quite attractive but will have to come in for the winter or be covered and protected from frost.

My dad does this all the time, he has ones that grow fruits. He managed to grow pineapples, melons, all sorts from seeds he harvests. He's Jamaican thou and he has it is his "green fingers" and I am English and have no hope 😂😂

If you want avocados from it you have to graft it..and then it takes about 10 years before you get any avocados

Oh yes … and chillies! I grow a lot of chillies and string them up to dry. I can’t eat so many these days but they make great garlands at Xmas. A lot of it is about not overwatering. And using the right soil.

Growing a plant from a mango pip is interesting, it grows a stalk about a foot high, then little purple leaves start from the top, grown down to the soil and then turn green and it looks like a one foot high miniature palm tree, then another shoot grows up and more leaves etc… Need a sunny place inside.

Yes. There's one in my old house. It's over 10yrs old and a sturdy tree in the garden. Sunny, sheltered back garden.
