Rose nursery?

Is there such a thing as a RL nursery that specialises in roses? I want to plant some roses and their scent is an important consideration in which to choose. Kew Gardens is the only place I know of in the SE where I can walk in a rose garden with lots of different varieties in bloom, and there it’s all shrub roses. I would also like a climber or rambler.

Thanks!

When would be the best time to go to see the roses in bloom? End of June? I doubt I’ll have the ground ready for them this year, but I could choose roses this year, get the ground ready later, and then buy them whenever the best time of year for planting is.

I've bought from Henry Street and Eastcroft before.
David Austin is the big one.
Apuldram is another you can visit
Peter Beales is a big rose grower. Might be too far

Not sure if you can visit Eastcroft actually

@Aparecium , Another way of doing it would be to take cuttings of roses you love. They won't all take so you'll need to take a few. My NDN is after cuttings of one of mine every year despite me leaving them tall so she can enjoy them. It's a deep red one with a pleasant scent. It's my favourite but it's one from a pound shop! I also have one that was a gift bought from a supermarket (Sains) - it blooms non-stop all through the summer - I don't really like the colour or where I put it but it would be a shame to move it.
i have another pound shop one that is lovely and scented but I can't remember the variety.

The gorgeous David Austen one I was given never settled here. It gave out 2 or 3 blooms for a few years then gave up Sad

The David Austen nurseries are in Allbrighton near Wolverhampton. (about 145 miles or 3.5 hours from London by car).
You could make a weekend of it. Shropshire is lovely - Shrewsbury, Lichfield and Ludlow are worth a visit and about 30 miles away.

Henry Street gave me the idea 😄

If you visit tue RHS gardens, like Wisley, a lot of their roses are already in flower and they lable them so you can make endless lists of your favourites.

I buy mine bare rooted in the autumn, mostly David Austin. Their website allows you to search by strength of scent.

In the street next to where I live there's a house that had a garden full of bright roses in the summer. Not fancy ones, just bright vivid colours It was delightful. You couldn't miss it when you drove, cycled or walked past. People would comment on it.

The house went on the market and the garden has leylandii-type conifers in it.
What miserable person would do that.

I love it when I hear a little child say something like 'Look Mummy, daffodils' or 'bumble bees' when they walk by, or of they snap off some lavender.

Borde Hill has an extensive rose garden. I expect Nymans does too - just can't picture it at present. I'm in the SE and my roses are in full bloom now.

See whether there are any gardens under the National Gardens Scheme in your area. You can visit private gardens owned by people who open them for charity, and they are bound to have roses (and know what variety they are). Some towns and villages organise their own similar scheme. The RHS also has a list of RHS partner gardens, so there might be some of those near you too. Most gardens open to the public tend to have name plaques in their rose gardens.
