Beginner’s Hosta?

I’m looking for a beginner’s hosta which will thrive in dry shade under a tree and have good slug resistance.

I would really love it if it had some variegation but that would be a bonus rather than the main criteria.

Does such a thing exist? where would I get it: a regular garden centre or online?

PS I was thinking of getting about 5 and putting them in a circle around the tree.

Lols I spent years trying to dig the drafted stuff out of my garden - it went everywhere!

How are you for slugs? I love hostas and have given up entirely as the moment I plant them the slug party klaxon goes off.

I’ve tried pellets, the garlic spray and various other repellents - none seem to last long.

Some hostas are less appealing to slugs and snails but I think as a species, they don't tolerate dry soil particularly well. The ground under trees is particularly challenging as it is generally congested with roots and definitely dry.

You could try growing them in pots but you'd have to water them regularly. If you're prepared to do that, have a look at 'June', 'Great Escape' or 'Liberty'.

I seem to remember the 'blue' hostas are more resistant to slug damage (eg Halcyon or similar)
