Ideas for bedding flowers in a sunny planter with jasmine and hebe

Not sure whether the pic I attach will upload so describing:

I have a wooden trellis container with star jasmine growing up, and in front of this is purple hebe. I want some bedding flowers to go in the container to break up the two. It’s in full sun most of the day so needs to be ok with intense afternoon heat/sun. Last year I tried so many things (chrysanthemum, pansies, thrift) but none of it looked right.

any ideas? Just looks sort of drab and bare this time of year and the star jasmine flowers look like they’re coming in mostly towards the top. Not even sure what would be a suitable colour, red/orange and pink all looked wrong last year. Was thinking white, but the star jasmine will also be white/cream, so just don’t know. Would appreciate any help! Maybe something trailing? Or tall?! Literally no idea..

Annuals or perennials? Osteospermum or margaharites are smallish but flower all summer (both are annuals). Michealmas Daisys are perennial but flower in autumn. Phlox is a very pretty ground covering plant and will probably flop over the side when established and flowers in spring for quite a long time (perennial)

Something that spills over the edges of the planter would be good. Maybe something like calibrachoa (million bells) - there are lots of colours.

Flax and nigella would both give you blue, although both come in pink and white too. Also cornflowers. And I found this gorgeous looking osteospermum. These are what sprang to mind if you're trying to get away from the warmer colours, @anemone22

Thank you this is really helpful in narrowing it down, I do love osteospermum but only seem to see very bright yellows so that’s an interesting link. Off garden centering tomorrow so I’m going to see if I can find something spilly like phlox. Didn’t realise just how weathered the edges of that planter were! Don’t really mind if annual or perennial. I’ve written down everything here so hopefully come away with something!
