Removing a stump with chemicals

Has anyone used Roundup stump killer to remove a troublesome stump?

I have three stumps of huge pyracanthas which I would like to get rid of but I can't dig them out (am disabled) and I think anyone else would struggle to do so as they are close to a fence and surrounded by other planting which I don't want disturbed.

I am thinking I can drill holes into the stumps and pour in some stump killer which will rot the enormous roots so that eventually the stump can be pulled out.

My worry is about the longterm effect on the soil.

Will it be fit for use afterwards or will there be a residue from the poisoned roots?

Also wondering how long it would take with the stumps treated and covered up before I would be likely to get them out?

Has anybody used this method?

Another way is hire a gardener to dig them up or someone with a stump grinder.

Round Up will kill the stump, if it's still producing shoots, it will eventually rot but not quickly. In practice the only way to get stumps out is with a lot of digging and a stump grinder. In a previous life, we found that concentrated Verdone (which is actually a lawn weed killer) painted on too willow and laurel stumps/new shoots was very effective at preventing regrowth.

As @IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads said, Ecoplugs aka stump plugs are bloody amazing. It is the least labour intensive way and likely much cheaper than hiring someone. It killed off multiple stumps of ivy in my garden, with no ill effects on the plants around it, only that plant's roots will rot away. I put a planter on top not long after, and the honeysuckle there is very happy.

You'll need a hammer, a drill, and while they'll try to sell you the ecoplugs drill bit - you can use a 13mm drill bit with a bit of tape wrapped around 3cm.
