Gardeners World - What a shame

Am I being unreasonable to think that Gardener’s World has jumped the shark?

It’s honestly a travesty of what went before and in no way makes anyone with a modest garden feel capable of creating a garden or delivers any meaningful advice.

There are BBC tropes and messaging rammed down your throat and literally nothing that relates to any ordinary gardener at this time of year.

The Beechwood Garden is a shadow reference to the old GW but I’m so disappointed at such a lost opportunity to make people feel like they can have a go at growing stuff.

Geoff Hamilton may be turning in his grave.

I can't listen to Adam Frost, his voice, delivery and presentation are all painful. Really grates.
Chelsea is overhyped. I used to love watching it on telly then got the chance to go 2 years ago as a birthday present. It was rammed. Couldn't get near the show gardens to see them, huge queues, expensive. I've watched a bit this year but found it repetitive. Best fun is to have a large glass of wine while watching it and take a swig everytime someone says " plornting " ( planting). It's all about the plornting apparently which for a gardening show is hardly surprising.

Err, you sure we are talking about the same bloke?

Yes! Honestly I really like him!

I did that one year and then the next I had to go for the day on a stall...thank goodness I was inside as it was horrendous outside and also, thank goodness I had the foresight to take my own lunch as one sandwich and drink alone would have taken all the expenses for the travel I was getting back.

I did learn one thing though - never go back!

I'm not keen (understatement) on an Estuary accent so I didn't warm to Adam at first but he gives very good, practical advice and is a warm, empathetic person.
I suggest that you listen to what he says, rather than how he says it.

I love Adam Frost.

He's the encouraging teacher with practical advice delivered with warmth and empathy.

Monty Don is the patronising, finger-jabbing one who tells you should ALWAYS do this and NEVER do that. His delivery is so EMPHATIC I feel I've had a right telling off. And after a segment on someone else's garden he always seems to find something to criticise or be sceptical about. We tune in for Adam on Friday evenings and tune out if it's Monty.

I like them all, there's a warmth to the programme. And Adam has an approach that seems sustainable for someone to take their time over gardening.

I quite like this about Monty. In an age of sycophants, it's good to see he is still allowed to express a genuine opinion whether we agree with him or not.

I think Adam really struggles with nerves but I wouldn't take him down for that. I have seen him out and about a few times and he has always seemed friendly and open to people. I think he wears his heart on his sleeve.

I met Adam at a GW event and he was lovely! He was signing books and I joked that he’d rather be outside getting his hands dirty but he said that he felt really lucky to be there and in his position whatever he was doing.

I like Frances’s chilled out approach and Advolly’s garden history segments, but my absolute favourite is when the producers visit an ordinary garden belonging to someone with a special interest (recreating a tropical rainforest, building a national collection of one specific plant etc). I roll my eyes a Monty and found the coverage of Chelsea this year unwatchable.
