Very unhappy Christmas cactus can anyone help??

I very very nearly drowned this poor specimen before Xmas with significant overwatering and although it didn’t actually die (yet) and it’s been on my ‘recovery’ windowsill ever since - it looks awful.

I guess it might benefit from repotting? Any other tips or TLC I should be giving it for a chance of recovery??

I've had this...I think the roots rot when you leave then in very wet soil, and then the stems look permanently dehydrated because they can't absorb the water.

Christmas cacti do "take" from cuttings very readily, so you could try removing one or two of the healthier looking stems and poking them into some damp soil in a fresh pot. You might be able to save some of the plant that way.

Mine looked like that. It recovered when I repotted it because it was root bound.

Take it out, remove all the soil from the roots and just leave it to air dry for a day or two. Then repot it into a well draining cactus mix .

Ok thank you - I’ll attempt the dry and repot first
