I’ve already started my tomatoes too early (just couldn’t resist) and will have to start another batch shortly after the greenhouse heated mat blew its fuse. Chilis doing OK though.

PSB in and sprouting in cold greenhouse, first radishes and beetroot ditto, and coriander. Kale not budging yet or a sneaky slug is hoovering them up as they poke through. Leeks next. Also scabious, and will be taking cuttings of the teeny tiny tot plants I bought early and are now putting on a very good spurt of growth.

I've brought in a big handful of seed packets from the greenhouse this morning and will spend the afternoon choosing which ones to start with. I'll be doing my normal thing of putting them onto wet kitchen paper and into bags, then putting them onto the top shelf of the airing cupboard to give them a good boost of warmth,

Will let you know 😊

I've sowed loads but the ones that have already started sprouting are calendula (pot marigold) and rocket.

The ones I'm most excited about are some seeds for big, juicy tomatoes that I'm trying out this year 😋

I got everything out on the kitchen table today

4 types of lettuce
2 types of rocket
Catmint
Viola
Pansy

I've also set aside a lot of wildflower mixes and have an area of unimproved soil ready to plant them outdoors next week.

The fog hasn't lifted since it got light at 6am. I quite like the fog, it's nice being in a blanket of fuzz 😊 hopefully we'll get some sunshine next week 🤞

I think I have gone too early, but already have done peas, mangetout, kale, and spinach and planted them out outside with some fleece. Have two different aubergine types and chillis that I planted in Jan. Tomatoes are just beginning to sprout. I have chard, rocket, purple pak choi, Mizuna etc on the windowsills. Hoping to do carrots after the frost tomorrow

Cosmos, sunflowers, lobelia, millet, echium pinnata so far. I was in France years ago and saw a lovely roadside display of sunflowers and artichokes so I have ordered some artichoke seeds and am going to try for a crazy Mediterranean border.
I see artichoke plants in Waitrose going for £8 a pop. They aren’t difficult to grow, so I am hoping to sell a few on FB if I can be arsed.

Ooh nice thread. 🙂

I've planted cosmos, marigolds, lettuce, toms, straws, chives, lavender (not sure if these will grow), cornflowers, sweet peas. 🙂

They're in windowsill seedling trays. So far the cosmos are showing 1 week in.

Need to get some more areas of my garden cleared or there'll be nowhere to plant them!

Sweet peas coming through and flourishing.
Chillies just sprouting.
Tomatoes in heated propagator, no sign as yet.
Black eyed Susan, ditto.
Basil, ditto.

And yesterday I scattered some seeds in tbe garden - alyssum and poppies.

DelurkingAJ · 13/03/2026 08:39

Tomatoes, sweet peas and morning glory are coming through nicely on the windowsill. The parsley, coriander, basil and padron peppers I sowed at the same time are still sulking. But there hasn’t been a lot of sun.

VenusClapTrap · 13/03/2026 14:46

Tomatos
Pepper
Ipomoea lobata
Verbena bonariensis
Cosmos
Scabious
Matthiola
Zinnia
Helichrysum
Sweet peas

Decided to hang fire this year, always go too early and things get leggy hanging around.
Will probably start sowing in April, maybe toward the end of month.

I don't need to sow tomato seeds; they're already popping up in my outside pots (DH hates the seeds, so they get into the waste water for the garden). Last year I had a lovely mixed bunch of free plants! It's still a bit chilly, so I've brought one seedling inside and am leaving the rest to nature. Do have loads more dried out on kitchen paper that I'll get going, though.

Just sown rocket, dill, snapdragon; all from last year's plants and all outside into pots. I'm still picking last year's rocket; it survived even the snow. DH eats a lot, so I need a lot more plants this year.

Finally, have started celosia inside, again from last summer's seed. That's definitely an indoors job.
