Patio pot rose recommendations

Mum has had to move into an assisted living apartment. She is really missing her garden (she had an amazing rose garden). I want to get her some patio pot roses for her terrace for Mother’s Day. Are there any good ones? I don’t know much about plants. She has a regular carer who has said they are happy to help water a few pots but imagine something hardy and repeat flowering would be best! Can you plant other things around the base or is this a bad idea?

I would have a browse here and see what appeals: https://www.davidaustinroses.co.uk/collections/ideal-for-pots-containers?srsltid=AfmBOooIlCSFIrqqboVLna4lf2BWtFYmzWTI3JdFm9aTnHNg09ElKrmn]]

You need a really good large pot, and you will need to feed it every now and again. I love roses planted with other things around the base - so long as they're quite small they won't do the rose any harm. Or you could pop in a handful of bulbs - something like iris reticulata or a mini narcissus like tete a tete ought to keep coming back. If you buy them now they'll be pricey as they'll be flowering, or you could tuck them in next autumn - you won't do the rose any harm if the pot is big enough anyway.

@SarahAndQuack this is so helpful thank you! This will show my complete lack of gardening knowledge but what diameter is “a really good large pot”? 40cm? 50? Love the bulb idea- that way it will look cheery on mother’s day itself too. Thank you for the lovely ideas.

40 or 50 would be perfect! You want to make sure the pot has decent drainage holes. You might add mychorrhizal fungi (David Austin will let you add this at the checkout IIRC) or some manure or fish blood and bone, but TBH I don't think these things matter too much so long as you're going to feed the plant next year (late winter/early spring), so don't be too worried (you won't want a random bag of manure around if you don't garden!).

Hope your mum has a really lovely Mothering Sunday.

Thank you so much!! Wonderful guidance (and probably do want to avoid the bag of manure), very happy to feed it in my visits with more of a container/liquid food though!
