Seeds I should be planting now indoors to get flowers come spring & summer

Hi, I am trying to get organised but want some advice on what seeds I can start planting now indoors to get cutting flowers & flowing 'english garden' type flowers?

I have a full sun area that is well draining so need flowers that are not too thirsty!

They will be planted among roses, herbs, and salvias mainly.

Sweet peas and snap dragons can be started indoors now and both are good as cut flowers although sweet peas don’t last very long.

Aubrieta, Amaranthus, Solenostemon (coleus), zinnias are all easy to start indoors

Don’t worry about that! They’ll keep flowering as long as you keep cutting them.

You can grow cosmos and sweet Williams from seed starting inside and then moving out once the weather warms up.

Sweetpeas you might as well just plant seeds straight out, I’ve done it both ways and planting seeds straight into pots outside is easiest.

Marigolds are good to grow from seed as well but the slugs ate all of my plants as soon as they went outside last year 😢

I’ve found that sowing seeds early in the year often results in leggy growth which are difficult to pot on. The light levels are currently very low and our conservatory is a bit too cold at the moment for seed trays.
I wouldn’t start until March when it’s slightly lighter and warmer. You don’t usually need light for germination as most seeds are covered.
I start them off in a smallish pot then transplant when large enough to handle to the modular trays.
I’ve found the large propogator trays with clear plastic lids invaluable and use the lid if it’s a bit cooler or remove when it warms up. Also great for putting outside for part of the day during hardening off.
You can often pick them up in Aldi or Lidl
something like this:

I have given up with sweet peas and just buy a few trays from the garden centre of Morrisons.
Antirrinhum seeds germinate well outside and often self seed, as do Mimulus (monkey flower)
Good luck, every year is different which is part of the fun!

I have a heated propagator and a grow lamp. I think I might start off some cosmos, lettuce and tomato this month with them, but more as an experiment.
I'm always eager to get started but I think it's a false economy usually because they don't have extra grow time, they just end up weak and leggy for months.

Come March, I would get started on cosmos, poppies, snapdragons, rudbeckia, nigella.
Nigella is easy to grow and will then self seed in the garden, same with poppies.
Snapdragons have nice foliage (which often holds on over winter) and are easy to grow.

We have so much nigella, it spreads everywhere. Good idea on the cosmos!
