I have posted on other threads recently - have just moved house to one with a garden, for the first time ever.

Less than two months later the bosses drop a bombshell that we are all up for redundancy.

I found out today I am safe - but only if I shift to another post with a 10K pay cut. I now frankly can't afford to buy anything to plant in my beautiful beautiful garden-to-be.

Sooo, I was wondering. Does anyone have any seeds, cuttings, etc that they would be willing to part with for postage costs? I feel a bit cheeky being so forward, but if anyone is feeling generous I would be so grateful. This business with my job has knocked me for six and if anyone could feel able to help me out it would brighten me up no end.

And if anyone knows of anyone with old garden tools, mowers, shears etc that they are about to eBay or chuck out or anything could they let me know and let me have first refusal?

I am now running away in that I have actually posted this!!!!!!!

Have you tried Freecycle?
People give away loads on there.

funnypeculiar · 12/06/2008 19:47

Suspect posting plants wouldn't really work (unless you look at courier which would wack the costs up)
Might well have some seeds from the garden later in the year, but left my seedbox out in the rain so nothing left over (twas all veg anyway so you might not have wanted them )
Agree with freecycle suggestion - there are often plants/seeds offered on ours.

fading, I probably don't live near you (unless you are also an Ayrshire lass) so I suspect my cuttings would die, BUT ime, most gardeners love giving away cuttings. i've had them from strangers whose gardens I have passed with ds in the buggy, told them how beautiful their plants are and asked for a cutting. Only if they are out in it though, lol. Tis worth asking.
Also, Our first garden was planted up in late October with various 'twigs' purchased from B and Q's knock down sale. A pound each! Many of them did well and filled our garden. Also, look out for free seeds to send away for in gardening mags/websites.

Where are you? I may have tools but only if you can collect. I am in Cambridgeshire.

TheFallenMadonna · 12/06/2008 20:11

God yes. Freecycle is marvellous for this sort of thing. And definitely ask around too. We have seedlings going spare, which I would certainly pass on if you were near me. DH constantly badgering me to find someone to take them. He is reluctant to put them on the compost heap.

missingtheaction · 12/06/2008 20:15

you need freecycle - am a recent devotee and it is BRILLIANT for everything. And Nickytwotimes is right, if you walked past my garden and admired a plant I would be ecstatic and happily hack you off a chunk or give you cuttings or whatever - you could knock on teh door and I would be delighted.

fadingaway · 14/06/2008 12:44

Thank you!

I may try the walking by and admiring! I'm in the north-east by the way.

I am now off to Freecycle again......

You've cheered me up no end.
