Can I save these Junipers?

I inherited these junipers in pots when I moved here. Unfortunately I put them at the front of the house (south facing) and they got fried. I've moved them back to the back of the house.

When I scratch off the bark on the trunk, there's green there.

What should I do? Cut them back massively in spring?

Thanks

The one on the right is saveable, it will eventually grow big enough that you wont notice the dead bits. Wait until it begins to grow bigger before you trim anything off. The one on the left is not salvageable I'm afraid

Just a thought, but are they damp? The one on the right is sitting inside a second pot - it's not sitting in standing water, is it? Junipers don't like to be soaked and it won't help them recover.

I wouldn't cut either of them back now (you risk frost getting into the exposed wood). But it is possible they will come back in the spring. The time to cut them back would be once they're starting to put out more green - then you carefully take off anything that is obviously dead. They will be funny shapes, but they will grow back if you take care.

I'm not sure why a PP thinks the one on the left is definitely dead; it's not.

Thanks! No, they aren't standing in any water, there are drainage holes in the bottom of the blue pot.

I suppose it costs me nothing to give them a chance!

Question - do I just chop the brown bits off or chop the whole thing back right to the base and basically let it grow again from scratch?

Thanks

You can reply:
“They’re still alive since the bark is green. Keep them in a shadier spot and prune dead parts in spring.”

@AntiqueVases Nearly all conifers will not grow back from bare wood. Leave all the branches with green foliage on them, and cut out only the dead brown stuff.
