Choosing colour for sandstone patio

I need to choose a colour today for my new patio and I am really struggling. I am definitely having Indian sandstone but for the life of me can't decide between kandala grey and Raj green. In every photo I see they look different which isn't helping. I like the softer colours of Raj green but in some photos it looks almost mismatched and multicoloured and doesn't seem to blend that well. I like the more uniform look of kandala grey, but am worried that it may be too stark and doesn't look that different from concrete slabs. Any help gratefully received, particularly from anyone who has a sandstone patio! Thanks

Looking at pictures on the internet I prefer the grey, which I think is more natural looking. But that's my personal preference.

What are you planning on having round, near or on the patio? Might that influence your choice?

Thanks, that's a good point. My house is red brick and it's a small garden so a contrast with the grey would probably work better. I'll have a table and chairs plus pot plants on there so it may be a bit too busy with the Raj green colours on a small patio.

Hi,
Kandala grey will provide a sharper, more modern contrast with your red brick house and will likely harmonize better with potted plants and furniture, preventing an overly busy look. If the sharpness of grey concerns you, you might consider Autumn brown or Fossil mint, they will offer a warmer, neutral base than Raj green but retain more character than Kandala grey, while still providing sufficient contrast with the red brick. Ultimately, for a small space and red brick, Kandala grey often provides the more successful, clean, and restrained backdrop.

Probably too late now, but try and imagine what the slabs will look like when they are wet. Let's face it, in the UK that happens a lot, especially in winter.

When MIL was having her patio done, we went to a builder's merchant to have a look, and I took a bottle of water with me so we could wet the slabs and see what difference it made to the colour. Quite a lot, as it turned out.

I ordered loads of samples when we did our patio. Many were free and others were a few £ for several samples. It allowed us to set them out against different garden fixtures, the house etc and to see how they looked at different times of day, in sun, shade and do on. We laid the patio ourselves, so had no time pressure thankfully.

We went for a pale granite in the end because the patio will mostly be in shade and granite is the both the most slip-resistant in Winter and the coldest surface (mainly for the dog) in Summer.
