Anyone else like weird houseplants? Esp stuff in jars! Terrarium, water plants and moss!

Hello

This is my current kitchen window display.

I think I may be becoming obsessed with things in jars!

I held off buying a terrarium for ages cos they were expensive but I'm so glad I got this.

I'm also weirdly fascinated by the water plant (in a bottle and literally filled with water) and the 3 varieties of moss in the other jars.

I previously had airplants but wasn't convinced they were alive!

Other items shown: orchid, jade plant obvs, venus flytrap.

It must be psychological - I'm also obsessed with filling jars with marbles and semi precious stones. I think it stems from watching "Greenclaws" as a child - a wee girl had to pick a pretty seed out of jar and then it would grow into a really cool plant.

I have a couple of air plants, and the silvery colour goes greenish when you run them under the tap. They are definitely alive, they are growing, and one of them surprised me with a flower last summer.

@RescueMeFromThisSilliness thanks, that's interesting. I'm positive my airplants didn't grow but maybe I didn't water them - oops - I maybe didn't think you were supposed to! I can't remember as it was years ago. Perhaps I'll try again then!

Yeah, in the wild they get humidity from the air and absorb it through their leaves I think, but in a house the air is too dry so you either have to mist them occasionally or dunk them in water for a couple of seconds. Once every few weeks seems to be fine. I hear they prefer rainwater to tap water, but mine have been fine so far. Ours are in the bathroom, so it is probably humid enough for them in there anyway.

@RescueMeFromThisSilliness I've just ordered this trio, see below. And now that I think about it, I DO recall "soaking" the plants and spraying them with fertiliser. They were from Dobbies as well so not cheap. They definitely seemed dead as dodos tho so I'll pay more attention this time.

We have a pet moss called Kate. She lives on the kitchen windowsill and has put on a lot of weight in the past six months.

I have all manner of indoor plants but consider myself very novice. I recently made terrariums with my mum. Initially just for the 2 of us, but then her gardener wanted to buy one, and we gave others away to relatives. I bought all of the containers/vases from charity shops.

I also have airplants in shells. Some hanging from the ceiling and others on the window sill which look like sea creatures. The pics aren't mine, but you get the idea.

I have a couple of air plants. They are definitely alive because they have grown! I mist them every week or so, and give them a 10 minute soak in seaweed water approx monthly. They do get upset when I don't water them, but then I'm in a pretty warm climate so I do think they dry out.

I also have a few propagation jars, it's my first time doing this, but so far so good.

I have 2 open terrariums too. They grow so well that I've had to re pot the plants and replace with new little ones a couple of times.

Plus all my other indoor plants too! I'm not 100% amazing with them, I do get the occasional one die, I think it's the watering; i tend to underwater AND overwater!
