Plants near the house - subsidence

Hello,
my house has subsidence and the soul is heavy in clay. But i wonder what kind of plants (pref flowery) i could use that would not mean more damage (is more subsidence) and that would thrive at the front of the house (sun in the morning).
id love climbing roses around the door or clematis (but the roots go deep?)
any suggestions? Many thanks

The roots of roses and clematis won't damage your foundations. Just resist the tempation plant a willow tree or Japanese knotweed next to the house.

What's causing the subsidence?

Ordinary small plants & flowers won't have any effect on a building, but avoid trees and very large shrubs altogether, particularly willow, cherries and conifers.

Even a conifer right next to your house wouldn’t cause subsidence or damage for at least 15-20 years - not suggesting you do that. Roses, clematis etc are all absolutely fine and will never be an issue

Not wisteria - can suck moisture out of the soil and make subsistence much worse

Do not plant a viburnum!

Thanks for all this - not sure what caused the subsidence. We are end of terrace on a soul that is very heavy with clay.
what do you think will fare better in the clay? Roses or clematis? Thank you!
