Now we are moving into Autumn I'm reflecting on the garden in Spring and Summer this year and certain plants have brought so much joy:

Tagetes tenuifolia 'golden gem' - the first time I've grown this from seed and it has been so beautiful, delicate deep yellow flowers and it is hated by aphids so the roses and dahlias I planted it next to have been aphid free for once. Last year my rose was covered in aphids, this year not a single one. Plus, the individual flowers on this tagetes last AGES - I have barely had to deadhead it at all, the flowers last for months! Three seedlings planted side by side created a big mound of beautiful yellow flowers - highly recommend!

Also, Coreopsis 'moonshine' - a very delicate little plant with very pale yellow flowers that I have dotted about the garden and gives a lovely bright pop of lightness amongst other plants.

Geum 'totally tangerine' - an absolute joy which really lifted the whole flower bed when it was in flower. Really missed it once the flowers were over.

Zinnas - never grown these from seed before but have been amazed at how big they got and what a long flowering season they have. Been flowering since the end of june and show no signs of stopping, they are really good value and so cheerful.

I could go on as there have been many more. What are your garden favourites this year?

This year I have loved having self-seeded snow-white marsh mallow flowers all over the place. They put on such a show and flower for ages, and I got excited when they popped up somewhere I didn’t expect them!

Our cosmos has also been fabulous - I planted lots and lots of seeds so every border seems to have cosmos bobbing about somewhere. I have one border still full of cosmos! It is such a simple and cheap plant to grow and once you get it to start flowering it just keeps going - fantastic value until that first frost kills it off!

How tall do your marsh mallow plants grow ?
