Got planted early June. Watered them for a few weeks but haven’t for a bit. Are they too dry? Are they beyond hope? I’ve watered them today but am now worried about watering too much. The fencing guy put them in and I don’t think any compost was put in the ground prior. Is it worth trying to dig something into the soil? I’m struggling to add an image

Why did you stop watering them? Any new large plant is going to need a lot of water for months after being planted.

Water them now. A lot. Several large watering cans full each. And do that once a week until the end of October. If you have a spray attachment on a hose, then hose the foliage down in dry weather too.

Thanks. Just don’t think I appreciated they’d need watering for months, thought a couple of weeks would suffice. 🙈. Have been out there with the hosepipe now….hoping it’s not too late.

Once you have got the soil moist (you can test with a moisture meter) you would do well to mulch them with 2/3 inches of compost, manure, bark chip. This will keep the soil cool and moist. Leave an inch gap between the mulch and the trunk. You're going to need to give them a weekly soak until we get consistent rain. You will need to water in dry spells for the next two years. I'm surprised the landscaper didn't discuss watering with you.

Big stuff takes a long time to establish and will need watering for some time, especially if they have been planted in summer. They need to establish roots in the surrounding soil, and that takes a while.

Hopefully they have been caught in time.
