Where to buy cheap terracotta/ceramic plant pots for the garden?

I’d like to buy a few big ones for my patio garden but they are £40-£50 at the garden centre, can’t spend hundres on a few plant pots!
Are there places where I can buy these for a much cheaper price? I really dislike plastic and would like to avoid that.

on my local Facebook marketplace there are dozens of listings for them. Try Facebook or other secondhand sites, reclamation yards etc

Buy cheap, buy twice. I did that when we moved to a house with a garden. Every single pot cracked during the next few winters. The reason good terracotta pots are expensive is that they are frost-proof. I ended up buying a couple of synthetic pots that looked good, and gradually buying terracotta pots one at a time over the next few years. Or if I saw them discounted in sales.

IKEA sell big terracotta looking pots. Not sure of the price though, maybe about £20 each?

Last year Homesense was good for these. I gave t been this year though.

I buy them in winter from the garden centre when they are normally half price & then plant them up the following spring

Where are you based?

The gardening club in Enfield has 50% off 99% of stock and has some huge pots.

The cheap ones aren't usually frost proof. If I buy cheap ones, I get them from B&M type places but if I want hard wearing ones that will be out in the garden during the winter weather, I pay more for frost proof pots.

My shed is living proof with all the broken terracotta crocks in there that buying cheap means they don't often last.

As PPs have said, we went to the garden centre when they had a sale.

Marketplace on fb and any reuse shops (there’s one attached to the local dump here that I’ve got loads of lovely pots from.)

Also carboots can be good for pots if you’re lucky.

My then-£20ish Ikea ones have survived about 3 winters so far. But they only seem to do 32cm ones now, mine are about 50cm. Great for blueberries, comes with a saucer to keep the roots wet.

Marketplace, freecycle, car boot sales, Ebay.

I’ve been very pleased with lots of these, they look Italianate.
15 years and counting, but plastic (you don’t want plastic)
Manufacturer is John Sankey
Available places like Wickes, sometimes B&Q, even ASDA early season.
(all my terracotta broke in the frosts)
They look terracotta, visitors are always surprised.

Home Bargains, or second hand on ebay
