50 more alliums - I love them, they reliably come back every year, pretty seed heads, and they mingle nicely with what else is going on.

dairydebris · 23/08/2025 11:13

Alliums - drumsticks, mt everest, summerbells

Species tulip, cretan hilde, peppermint stick

Iris tuberosa

Crocus

Fritillaria

Daffodils dreamlike

Anemone strawberry fullstar

I use Dutchgrown and J Parkers mostly.

Mixed success with Farmer Gracy but I love their website so often read on there but buy on others mentionned above... many a happy hour spent!!!

CortadoPlease · 23/08/2025 16:53

😱 I’m buying from Farmer Gracy for the first time, mainly after recs on here. Hope they’re good! They haven’t arrived yet.

edit for typo

If anyone can recommend some which deer don’t like I will start shopping.
They ate most of my crocuses from the front garden last year.

BunnyRuddington · 23/08/2025 18:38

No experience of deer sorry @Mrsmunchofmunchingtonso no idea which ones they find revolting.

@dairydebrisi think it’s mainly Dutch grown that is filling up my SM.

Thanks for the tip on reading the Farmer Gracy website. I shall have a look this evening Smile

Oh gosh yes I would love some recommendations for deer proof flowers too.

Have just typed Farmer Gravy into google by accident. I think that might just be a site catering to us Northern birds Grin

I planted my first daffs, which saw their first fruition this spring. I was well chuffed. I've moved house recently, and adopted a mature garden. Tulip and daff bulbs included.

MIAMNER · 23/08/2025 23:06

Snowdrops & bluebells (to fill an awkward spot under an oak tree) - meadow mania

Pale pink, white & spring green tulips for pots (DDs choice, I’d go for brights but I want to encourage her to garden) and white daffodils - Dutch grown

purple sensation alliums & minnow daffodils - J Parkers

MIAMNER · 23/08/2025 23:21

I meant to add, I buy plants when I’m stressed and I clearly have had a lot to stress about!

You clearly have @MIAMNERbut what a lovely and productive way to deal with stress. I usually just lose my keys when I’m stressed.

Still mor bought any bulbs yet but I’m enjoying hearing about your orders.

I bought a pot at the weekend. Actually bought it for something else but it was too big. Now I’m planning on putting some muscari that I saved along with some Tête à Tête. Not the most original combination but effective.

BarnOwlFlying · 27/08/2025 22:23

Native daffodils, they are a lovely shade of yellow. I prefer them to the vivid colours of the bigger, brasher varieties, plus they spread and naturalise.
I’m also a sucker for J Parker’s regular and wholesale catalogue - I think it’s dutchbulbs.
I love it when a Parker’s bulb catalogue comes through the post, much nicer than online.

ABitPissedOff100 · 28/08/2025 14:52

Alliums have already arrived
Fritillaria imperialis - they are so showy and the goldfinch like them
Some more daffodils as every year I think - I should have put some more daffs in. Tete a tet mostly but some white ones too.
Got caught at a weak moment by Sarah Raven with a 30% off deal and bought some species tulip to see if they will actually come back year after year (I think my garden is too wet) and a couple of collections for big pots in front of the sliding doors into the garden - something to look at from the kitchen table.
Some random bright tulips for pots near the greenhouse just to cheer the garden up in the long long winter....(garden gets no sun from beginning of October to end of March).

MaxandMeg · 28/08/2025 16:28

Way too early to plant tulips- it can be done up until Christmas.

I've got a parterre in front of the house that I do with 3 colours of tulips, usually about 800. Then I've got a lot of big pots that take another 500. I don't much bother with daffs as the garden is full of them but I might top up my fritillaries. I have mastered getting crown imperials to flower every year (finally).

I'm going to reuse some of last year's bedding tulips as I noticed one was a good repeat flowerer. 'Bleue Aimable.' I like the viridiflora tulips like 'Green Star' and 'Chinatown' so I might mix them in a couple of pots. The lily flowered are my real love but they never do a second year. I'll still order them for pots though because they're late (the garden opens at Easter so I need May flowerers). I love 'White Triumphator' and 'Ballerina' - oh, and 'Mariette'. Other than that I haven't really decided. I love alliums but last year they just fed the rabbits.

I use Parkers Wholesale. Farmer Gracy is brilliant for lilies though.

SoftLass · 28/08/2025 16:47

I've ordered many many alliums. The deer really don't like them! This is what we get in our garden! 😁 I'm planning on filling the bed with alliums this year in the hope that it will also put them off everything else as well.

I ordered from Farmer gracy for the first time last year and the bulbs were fantastic. Also got some fabulous amaryllis from them too but a bit early to order those yet.

Chasingsquirrels · 28/08/2025 16:47

These, the alliums are on a postage only offer and I was ordering something else as a present for someone so added in the hyacinths and daffodils offers.

A bag of cheap daffs from the supermarket. As it has rained here in the east midlands for much of the afternoon I'm hoping that the soil will no longer feel like a slab of concrete and I'll be able to actually dig a few small holes for them.

NotMyRealAccount · 28/08/2025 17:20

Three boxes of purple/white mix tulips leapt into my trolley at Morrison's this week. I daren't buy online because I get carried away and end up staring at a mountain of bulbs in October. I don't need more daffodils and have resolved to pass on the iris reticulata this year because although they're gorgeous they only seem to flower for five minutes.

StrawberrySquash · 29/08/2025 13:15

Too many! Mostly daffodils and tulips, but also alliums, fritillaries and crocuses. Thompson and Morgan order is already here, Farmer Gracy to come. And I had weak moments in the Range and Asda.

BunnyRuddington · 31/08/2025 18:23

@MaxandMeghave you ever used Hart’s Nursery for Lillies?
