Google is talking out of its posterior...it might be a type of abutilon but I'm not sure...

No, that’s Himalayan honeysuckle. Leycesteria. Birds spread the seeds. It’ll have berries as the flowers fade. Nice free shrub!

Yes it's this. It's often called pheasant berry. The berries are very pretty.

Just came back on to say Leycesteria...you beat me to it @user9064385631

Although it is on the verge of being designated an invasive species so I’d probably get rid tbh!

Is that right? I don't find it particularly frost hardy but I suppose with climate change it might become an issue one day!

DiordreBarlow · 14/08/2025 20:50

It does self seed very well. I'm always pulling up seedlings it makes in my garden.

DongDingBell · 14/08/2025 21:14

Thank you. I couldn't make the description match deadly nightshade either - mine has pairs of leaves, Google wanted them alternating - hence not believing Google!

It's not in the most convenient of spots, so I might let it seed this autumn, then pull it up.

Picture This is a great free plant identification app. I use it a lot. There is a premium version, I don't bother with it.

Google is talking out of its posterior 😂

Zippedydodah · 17/08/2025 14:38

Pheasant Berry aka Leycesteria, it happily seeds itself around but is very easy to pull up.

Kaftanesque · 17/08/2025 14:49

I have a pheasant berry in my garden and it hasnt been invasive. The odd seedling that's easy to pull out.Bees and birds love them.I just cut it right back and up it pops the next year.
