Can you identify this weed

I’ve been ripping out this self seeding plant but some escaped the garden fork and have developed into a cute flower. This is so pretty but I have no idea what it is?

Is it a genuine flower? Or some type of invasive weed, because by gosh, it doesn’t half flourish in my border.

It's a cottage garden type flower, Linum grandiflorum 'Bright Eyes', it's an annual so if you don't like it just don't let it self seed and it will be gone by next year. Not invasive or anything.

You can get an app for your phone 'Seek' that can instantly identify all types of plants. It's a bit addictive though!

Circle to search on Android phones is good for identifying plants. It concurs with PP about which plant it is.

Thanks. Are these free apps?

Can’t believe I’ve been pulling out a genuine plant!

Moderately toxic if eaten to humans and pets if that influences your decision on whether to keep it.

Seek says it’s a flax so definitely not a weed! I’ll look into toxicity as while the dog doesn’t eat plants, she will probably walk over them and lick her paws afterwards.

It’s always a bit of a twist when something you’ve been pulling out turns out to bloom into something surprisingly lovely! Without seeing the photo, it’s hard to say for sure, but it sounds like you may have a classic case of a weed that wins your heart over with flowers.

There are several self-seeding plants, such as herb Robert, borage, or evening primrose, that can sneak in and suddenly put on a charming show. Some are native, others invasive—but many toe that line between “nuisance” and “keeper.”
If you’re able to upload the picture, I’d be happy to help identify it more precisely. And either way—if it’s flourishing without fuss and brings you joy, maybe it’s earned a spot (in moderation) in the garden after all! ClassyPlants
