Any suggestions please?

I want to screen an undesirable view with some fast growing tall shrubs.
Clay soil, partial shade in the afternoon.

Photinia, Viburnum, or certain Hydrangea varieties. DH and I saw a lovely climbing hydrangea yesterday at the garden centre.

Do you have trellis or wall you can grow up and over?

How tall? I have clay soil and my fastest growers have been escallonia and ceonothus. Both easily available and relatively cheap.

Buddleia. The purple one will grow 6 ft in a year. Fast growing (with any shrub) also means will need frequent trimming/ pruning so that it doesn't get out of control

This is a good call. We caught the train across the country last weekend and the Buddleias on the side of the tracks were absolutely stunning and covered in wildlife.

Honeysuckle

Ceanothus 'Italian skies'. Their common name is Californian lilac but they aren't a lilac at all, they just have similar-looking flowers.

Thanks all.
I am going to try escallonia and ceanothus.
I love buddleias but I think the other two are more dense for blocking the view.

Sambucus nigra - Elderflower. There are some lovely purple leaves cultivars. Cotinus is pretty quick too
