Pesky Bamboo

Has anyone paid an invasive weed company to remove escaping bamboo from your property. Mine is worrying me and I’m waiting on a quote, just have absolutely no idea on a ballpark figure. Yorkshire

I looked into it and it can cost a few hundred, from what I found out on-line.
I decided to tackle it myself. The bamboo is in our neighbours garden and crept into a piece of rough land in my garden approx 30x30 ft.
Cutting down the tops isn't a problem.
Digging up the rhizomes is hard work, I'm no spring chicken. I got a wrecking bar, which is pretty good, a spade would have been useless. I'm slowly getting through the patch and it's working. Neighbour mentioned that his side has started to spread, lol. Serves him right.
I've now ordered a roll of special bamboo barrier, some sharp sand and paving slabs. I'm going to dig a trench and insert the barrier sideways so the pesky stuff can't creep in again. As I said, it's a rough bit of ground near the end of a longish garden. It doesn't need to look pretty.
Sorry, I haven't answered your questions but just sharing my DIY tips.

Perhaps it's time these invasive varieties were banned from sale.

Thanks for info. We inherited it when we bought the house and not being avid/ on it gardeners didn’t really notice/thought it was a problem when its spread. It’s behaved itself mostly… but now gone under patio and along shared fence. I’ve dug up what I can and used herbicide. There’s a lot of scary stories putting it in conversations with Japanese knotweed so I just want it gone, or properly contained with bulletproof membrane. But don’t know if I’m going to get fleeced

Are you my neighbour? He had someone in to dig it out on his side of the fence but now it back in a vengeance especially on our side.

I saw some bamboo for sale In Morrison’s the other day and it recommended planting in pots as it may spread. I think that it’s sale should be banned unless it’s the clumping variety.

If you get a professional company in, possibly one used to dealing with JKW, they will hopefully provide you with some ongoing maintenance/ removal. I'd get a couple of quoted. Even 'clumping' varieties can run if the mood takes them.

TiswasPhantomFlanFlinger Haha, no I’m not your neighbour. But I must be more considerate because the thought of my bamboo spreading and disrupting my neighbours foundations makes me sweat and hyperventilate a little lot. Luckily they are renters so may care a little less about more greenery.
