Help - can I move these plants?

I planted a forsythia a few months ago and a salvia two weeks ago. I’ve realised both are in the wrong place as they’re being crowded out by more established plants. Can I move them now or will they die?

Possibly wait a few days because we're due a heat wave. Wednesday onwards is supposed to be cooler, but water them well before you move them. Dig a nice big amount of soil around them so you don't damage the rootball and water well daily after you move them

I wouldn't do the forsythia until the autumn as I would worry about it surviving the summer if you cut off some of its roots, but the salvia will probably not have extended its roots far into the soil so you'll probably get all the root mass and I don't think it will suffer.

I agree with Lady Catherine, leave the forsythia until it’s dormant. It should be absolutely fine to be moved.

Thanks everyone. I’ve moved the salvia and given it a good water. Will leave the forsythia until September.

Don't forget things grow - forsythia may not be big yet, but it will become a fairly tall shrub, so maybe you just need to cut back the things threatening to overshadow it.

Yes, I stupidly forgot that when I planted it! I think it will need to move as I really like the plant next to it and want to let that grow. Now just have to be patient until September, easier said than done!

Update: the salvia dropped its sole flower shortly after moving it. A few days later it has grown a new flower and is developing another. So I think it’s happy in its new home. I’m also giving it a good soaking daily. Thanks for the advice!
