Anyone know what this shrub is? I've searched online but no luck. Has grown up to 6 ft and grows on cane like stems. Gorgeous and very popular with bees etc. Thanks.

Deutzia.

I think it might be a syringa is it scented?

Poynsettia · 21/06/2025 08:17

Deutzia -these grow from cuttings very easily so I have several in the garden, some with pink flowers some with white. I don’t prune them -they have a nice spray shape without.

Fairly certain that isn't a plant, nevermind this particular one.

@Frankie2008 - if you manage to find out which one could you update please? I'm always after ones that attract bees and that one looks particularly stunning. I also always thought deutzia was an early spring flowerer, huh!

Not scented and it's not lilac. Thanks

😀I have never figured out google lens and Mumsnet knowledge is far superior to AI 😍.

Yes, will definitely update. It is stunning but hidden away in a small space of wild garden. Would love to get another one.

Could I ask how you take cuttings and when to do it? I'm assuming from the new wood. I'm a bit hit and miss with cuttings. Thanks.

I have this one which I bought in Poundland as a twig. I babied it for a couple of years and kept potting it on, now it's a fairly substantial shrub absolutely covered with bees!

Well done. I am always buying half dead plants and most can be saved with a bit of nurturing.

You can take softwood cuttings and hardwood cuttings, depending on the type of plant and the time of year. Look the plant up on the RHS website for information on the right time and method for what you have.
