Leaky hose connection

Fed up with this leaking hose. It’s on a reel and leaks at the point of connection into the housing case.
Ive replaced the connector with a new Hozelock one but it’s still very leaky.
May try taping it although don’t know how long this would last.
Would prefer to find a solution instead of replacing the whole thing but using the hose has become so miserable (I do use a bucket to catch the water and use on but it’s such a faff).

Yeah, I feel your pain. We had the same thing with our outside tap and a timer we wanted to use for a watering system. Ultimately, we found that using a metal connector worked (rather than a plastic one), but I'm not sure that helps you tbh. We used plumbers' tape for a while and it did the job, but it wasn't a permanent fix.

You need to unscrew the section that is leaking and wind a tiny bit of linen or hemp thread around the threads of the screw and then re- screw the section on. Keep adding threads until the drip stops. I live in France and this is what old fashioned plumbers do to stop leaks. It is called " filasse" in French.

I have just checked and this supposedly only works on metal ( brass) faucets. But you can always try!

The modern equivalent is a kind of tape made of Teflon otherwise known as PTFE. This may work better on your plastic connectors. HTH

We had a connector to a tap that was leaking. Turns out there was an o ring missing on the end of the male part. The o rings can be bought in packs. If replacing the connector didn't work though perhaps there's a bit missing in the female part or perhaps it's got damaged?

I don't know what Hozelock's customer care is like but it might be worthwhile contacting them. They might be familiar with the problem and can suggest a fix. If they are on twiX I think it's worth a punt.

Edited

DH did wind some plastic looking thread around the ‘male’ connector end but this has not solved it. I think he’s going to have another shot.

If it's leaking within the connector, it might be worth replacing "O" ring.

I've given up with Hozelock, there are better, such as Gardena and Geka.

Have tried a Gardena replacement too and it leaks less than the Hozelock one but still leaks.
I’ll check out the O ring.

This is the o ring that we replaced, just give the image a moment to be approved. Sorry it's a bit blurry

What about using a "pressure reducer" ? It is a piece you screw on in between the faucet and whatever gadget you are using, i.e. sprayer or drip system. It should relieve some of the pressure on the "join" and probably leak less.

Or maybe your system is simply worn out and needs replacing. ...

DH went to screwfix and got a replacement inlet part with a seal. I think that the seal was what was either missing or worn out in ours.
How wonderful it is to use a hose that doesn’t leak!!
Thanks for all your suggestions, I was determined to fix it if DH hadn’t intervened.

I have this all the time , the connections just aren’t good , assuming you’ve checked washer etc

I feel that. It was like all my Christmases came at once 😁

Dbank · 21/06/2025 19:31

Glad it's sorted.
