What size container to plant a 2litre plant in

I'm quite new to gardening, so sorry if this is a daft question.

I want to but a 2 litre hebe plant. What size container should I plant this into? Google just keeps giving me the dimensions for a 2litre pot but I want to know what is a good size for a larger container to move it into. Or is it better to buy 3 x 9cm plants and move them to a larger container?

Or if I get 2 x 2litre plants what size container would these need to plant them both in?

Assuming you are putting in a pot to keep it there, the bigger the pot the better

Ah brilliant. I thought you were only supposed to go up a small increase in size pot, but if it will be ok in a big pot I'll do that.

That's just for indoor plants that you are keeping in pots or plants that you are trying to grow up. If it's a long term perminant pot then I think you can just go for it. Although I could be wrong?

Some plants don't like too much space. Google the specific plant and see what it says.

There can be a problem called overlooking, putting a plant in too big a pot so the plant can't cope with the amount of water the pot can hold. It seems to be more of an overwatering problem. If the pot has got good drainage I can see it being a problem with an outdoor plant.

Hebes can get very big. So one per pot and whatever size looks best. You don’t want it to look lost. If possible going shopping for the pot in person - then you can get a better idea by putting a similar size plant in the pot.

Thanks everyone. I have been getting myself in knots googling pot sizes 😄 Yes, from what I've read, hebes spread so hopefully it will be ok in the size pot I've chosen.

I have a purple flowering hebe planting in the ground in the back garden, and the bees absolutely love it, so I'm hoping they'll like this one too.
