Can someone recommend me a house plant that I can sort of "get into"?

Going through a pretty grim time at the moment, and need a bit of a project and a distraction. However, I've not had many houseplants before - only succulents which basically thrive on neglect - so I don't want something massively difficult. But something to provide a sense of peace and purpose would massively help me. I live in a ground floor flat, living room has lots of light, if that's helpful.

My ficus are indestructible! I have 5. However I'm too embarrassed to confess to the number of peace lilies I have killed...they just hate me.

Glad to know!!! Is there a lot of maintenance to get that classic bonsai look?

If you buy a decent quality bonsai, a lot of the shaping work has already been done, then it's just maintaining it which isn't hard imo. The only mistake I've made with mine was missing watering it for a couple of days and it dropped some leaves in a hissy fit! (But recovered well). They're so pretty and I've accessorised mine with a hagstone and a tiny brass dragon I got at a vintage sale. I love it.

Bonsai trees? You can bonsai any kind of tree I think but they need quite active care to stop them growing. www.wikihow.com/Start-a-Bonsai-Tree

I know someone mentioned pelargoniums, but I'll add them again. Grow well, can train into more bushy shapes with pruning. Some are hardy (I have one in a pot that been coming and going for years, loads of small pink flowers in spring), and easy to propogate. I've made twelve cuttings from four different plants today.

I had a geranium named after my late mother so that's the one I am focusing on keeping going and propagating, you can definitely get "into it".

Though I bought five last year and two died 🙄

I know you mentioned succulents but have you thought about cacti?
This one is a new Bunny Ears and has already started growing more little ears 😊
