I need to cut down the Leylandii, don’t I?

No idea how tall it is exactly but you can probably tell by the scale of the washing line it’s bloody enormous!
We only moved in last year so the planting is nothing to do with us.
It takes up a LOT of the garden, and I can see it’s already gone into the neighbours garden too.
I think it needs cut down but I almost feel a bit bad because I do kind of like it, but it’s only going to keep growing, isn’t it?!
I’m also actively trying to plant privacy trees/shrubs etc and this tree does provide a lot of that, but it’s just a bit much!

Some old fashioned hedgerow plants are great if you traditionally lay hedges. Some plants are not great with an annual trim. Beech and hornbean are easier and birds nest in them. Rambling roses can be interplanted. Holly is a bit of a thug too. Berries good but not great for garden bird nests. Leylandii is the absolute worst though.

I probably wouldn't cut it down ... They are good for privacy and for birds (certainly there are loads in the managed hedge a friend has). I'd ruthlessly manage it though, and get it into a good shape.

They do grow very very tall we removed ours

We had two in our neighbours garden when we bought the house and they refused to pay for them to be cut down, they were the bain of the street, the previous owner in the end agreed to pay the £2k for them to be taken down before we completed, I would nip it in the bud now, ours were massive, picture only shows part of the height

They should be banned!
