Hello

I have 5 David Austin roses, lark ascending, NYE Bevan, Hyde hall, Emily Brontë, iceberg.. I am mainly lookyfor roses that make good cut flowers, I now would like a rose that makes for great fence coverage, I've heard nothing but great things about Gertrude Jekyl but does take a couple of years to get going, anyone else have another recommendations for fast growing climbers? Also all the DA roses I have had have been incredible quality I do know of Peter beales roses to, has anyone got any of theirs? If so which ones would you recommend? Thank you

GJ is great. I have the shrub version, it's about 16 years old now and still going strong.

Sorry, I realise I totally failed to answer your actual question there. I have a yellow climber with the questionable name, "golden showers", that does well.

All vigorous climbing and rambling roses take two years to establish because they need to get a good root system first.

Nice rose collection. Iceberg is not a David Austin rose but they do sell it. If you want a non David Austin bred rose it’s best to shop around as they are the most expensive and the quality is no better than anyone else.

I have golden showers and it’s a nice open rose with big heads that the bees love. Gardening express are currently selling off the last of their bare roots for the year and have GS at £3.99…

Lots of places sell great roses: Peter Beales, Harkness, Sarah Raven, crocus… even cheaper places like Thompson and Morgan or Gardening Express.

What is your ideal colour? What plants will it be next to and need to compliment? Do you want an open flower (for pollinators)? Is scent important? Does the climber also have to be suitable for cutting? This would rule out the cluster style roses as they have shorter stems…

Unless you buy a mature (v expensive) plant they’re all going to take a few years to make an impact.

I have Golden showers too!
One I love which I bought as a shrub but which has turned out to be a climber is Peter Beales Crème de la Crème - wonderful scent and it’s always the first to flower and keeps on going until December. It got going quite quickly.

I have the DA Generous Gardener planted last year in a pot & it has quite quick strong growth. I’ve been tying it into a trellis this spring.
This year I’ve planted DA Claire Austen in the ground, but it’s tiny atm.
My other climber is Ginger Syllabub from Harkness Roses - that’s taken a couple of years to get going but has about 10-15 big roses on this year so far.

Roald Dahl is lovely.

I love the Creme de la Creme above! That's definitely going on my list!
I also have Golden Showers. I wouldn't say it was particularly fast growing. We do keep it pruned to a 6ft fence though.
OP - try Madame Alfred Carriere.
