Small cheap & windproof greenhouse

Anyone have any recommendations for something that would survive Scottish winds, and won’t cost the earth. Don’t need it to be big.

That's going to depend where you are in Scotland and exactly how exposed the site is. Glasgow will be very different to Shetland. Unfortunately, the really good windproof options are rarely cheap, but you will get better advice with more information.

Cheap and windproof are sort of a contradictory in terms sadly. The plastic zippy ones are cheap but they do need to be really securely anchored down.

We had one and DH had some old iron stakes which he hammered into the ground at each corner and we fixed the frame to that. The plastic did get destroyed in a big storm quite soon afterwards🙄and as we had managed to buy the one size plastic greenhouse that you couldn't just buy a replacement plastic cover for, so we had to buy a whole new one, but it did last a couple of years. I used the spare bits of frame to grow other things on.

The best thing is to look out on local pages as people do give away unwanted greenhouses. We spotted one of our neighbours was giving a basic aluminium and glass one away free but we had to go and dismantle it, and put it all together again in our garden.

I bought a small wood frame/perspex sheeting lean-to one and put it in the most sheltered part of the garden. So far so good, we are south coast but get some cracking SW gales straight off the English Channel. Wooden fences and their posts have to be VERY securely fixed, and there's an old aluminium greenhouse at the bottom of the garden that is out of square because of the gales, always breaking glass and needs demolishing. Shed roofs also very vulnerable. Just to give you an idea of what I am up against!

Silly question but does a greenhouse have to be in the sun. Our most sheltered spot is also the most shady with very little direct sunshine. Is that a problem I wonder.

Just googled & apparently yes it does. But that’s still the type I was thinking of.
