Can a Gertrude Jeykell rose ever be apricot colour?

I have what I thought was a Gertrude Jekyll rose purchased from David Austin Roses about 10 years ago. It is a lovely apricot colour and very fragranced.
Someone has said it can't be a Gertrude Jekyll unless it is bright pink.
I am really surprised as I thought I remembered ordering a Gertrude Jekyll. Here is a picture.
Can anyone advise me on this?

That’s not Gertrude.

Gettingbysomehow · 07/06/2025 11:28

Definitely not. Mine have always been vibrant pink.

As others have said, Gertrude Jekyll is bright pink. It is possible that it was grafted onto a different root stock which has become dominant and burst through though? (I know that’s not gardening lingo, I hope you get my gist).

Is it incredibly thorny? If not it’s def not GJ.

Gertrude is definitely pink and not peach. But it’s still a lovely roar you have, whatever its name!

My Gertrude is scenting the whole garden just now

Could also be Bridge of Sighs. The smell of GJ is very powerful.

I wonder if it could be Lady of Shalott?

Looks like my Lady of Shallot.

I have loved a few mislabelled roses, most turned out happy mistakes like yours OP! Still a lovely rose.

HumphreyCobblers · 07/06/2025 17:41

Planted not loved

MicrowaveAge · 08/06/2025 15:18

Thanks all! I have trawled through my emails and discovered that the rose I have is in fact a Lady Emma Hamilton! I have been wrongly claiming to have a Gertrude Jeykyll rose since 2014😂 Still, Lady Emma is very splendid!

So do I, even the Ranbling Rector that had no label. It’s now huge!

Beebumble2 · 08/06/2025 18:55

Rambling!

Ooh I think you’ve solved a mystery for me OP. I planted this DA rose around 20 years ago and had forgotten the name but Emma Hamilton sounds familiar. Does it look like this?

It fades to a more peachy colour.

Eustacia Vye?

minipie · 09/06/2025 21:45

It’s gorgeous OP I prefer it to the Gertrude

BestIsWest · 09/06/2025 21:46

It has a glorious smell. I’m going somewhere where they have an Eustacia Vye tomorrow so I can check. All I remember is that it was a woman’s name!.

BestIsWest · 10/06/2025 07:52

Don’t think it can be Eustacia Vye as the DA website has that as being bred in 2019 and it’s definitely been in at least 20 years.
