What tree to plant?

Here is a picture of my garden. I’ve planted a red acer tree and a few privets. What tree do you think would look good on the right? I thought another acer or maybe something different. Have two dogs, so need something non-toxic to dogs.

How about a multi stem birch? My local garden centre has some 3 stem ones and they are beautiful, like an instant copse. Much cheaper than a mature tree but really effective for an instant impact.

Do you know what, I just suggested that very one to my mum! I’m sold, that’s a sign 🤍🤍

Oh. I was just about to suggest a fruit tree: blossom early in the year and fruit later on.

I have a birch! Mines in a pot but looks great. Leaves are the right size for my tiny garden.

I also love my weeping crab apple. The spring blossom is utterly stunning . It has beautiful little fruit in autumn and the bare lolloping branches still look interesting in winter ( very pretty with string lights woven in).

Trees make a garden. Don’t worry about putting them in big pots either,

I was also going to suggest a fruit tree, espalier/ train sideways along fence

I was also looking at a Japanese flowering crab apple! I quite like cherry blossom, but coming up toxic for dogs.

Do you want something ornamental or useful? Here's a list of fruit that is safe for dogs if you fancy a fruit tree.

Thank you! Ornamental I think :)

I was going to say a birch too! I saw some 6ft ones in B&Q today for £39 - a really good price. Might be worth a look if you have one near. Great start to your garden ❤️

Amelanchier tree might be nice

Thank you lovely. Oh that’s a very good price for the height. Definitely think I’m after a multi stem one now though after I’ve seen it online

Either buy a multi stem or get 3 smaller trees and plant them together. That’s what our garden centre does and they work really well. He sells them as a single unit but tells you that they’re actually three separate trees if that mattress sense. If they were in nature they wouldn’t be precisely spaced so I wouldn’t worry about squashing them in.

Amelanchier is a good call. How about viburnum plicatum mariesii - the wedding cake tree. More of a shrub than a tree, but ever so pretty.
