Slugs infesting my kitchen

We've lived in this old cottage for more than twenty years and have a large garden. The kitchen door is often left open in the summer. Last year we kept finding slugs in the kitchen at bedtime - all told we removed about 30 over a few months 🤮. We emptied the dresser, fridge and freezer and checked underneath, nothing. Just couldn't find where they were coming in. It was different ones, the big black ones and the small brown ones.
Nothing over the winter, but in the past couple of days we have had three more. We've kept the door shut despite the lovely weather, and anyway slugs come out at night. Am at a loss to know how they are getting in. Can't put anything down as we have a dog. There are the trails on the floor, but they don't lead anywhere.
anyone got any ideas?

There will a small crack between the wall/floor they they can squeeze through. You need to be vigilant to catch them entering, and as many are nocturnal probably best to keep the kitchen unlit.

I had this in a Victorian semi in the kitchen, I found where they were coming and swept a load of sea-salt into it. Never saw one again.

Could they be living under the floors? In our old house they used to crawl up from underneath the wooden floorboards at night. Sympathies though it’s so disgusting!

If you can keep the dog out over night you can lay a trap!
Half a cucumber and leave it on the floor, and then sneak down in the middle of the night to catch them at the buffet.
The salt sounds like a good idea too.

I had one who used to leave it's trails all.over the sitting room. Drove me batshit. Then husband saw it heading towards where it was living under the settee early one morning.

Put a salt perimeter around your kitchen. They won't cross that if they're coming in from outside. If there's still evidence they're sleeping somewhere during the day.

Thanks for the replies. We have stone floors and no floorboards, the kitchen floor is tiled. (The foundations are shallow though). Can't find any holes outside in the rough casting 🤷🏼‍♀️. Going to put a load of salt along the door jamb, the outside wall, and inside the skirting boards (the walls are bit wavy so the boards aren't flush). Hopefully might sort them out.
