Just a little interaction post 🙂 when it comes to roses do you prefer scented or unscented? As for myself I much prefer scented. Here is a picture from my own rose plant that my boyfriend bought me last year

Scented, very much prefer scented. It is my first filter on the David Austin website.

Scented, definitely! We have a large scented rose at the back door and it's lovely.

Geneticsbunny · 21/05/2025 11:38

Scented but I will put up with non scented if it is absolutely stunning.

I love scented roses but alas my sense of smell is quite weak so they are rather lost on me.

Scented.

I sometimes cut some flowers off and put them floating in a bowl of water which gives a lovely smell in the house.

Scented. We recently moved from a house where I'd planted 60+ David Austin roses in our large garden. A few were in big pots so we brought those with us, but I'm missing the amazing scent of so many roses!

At our new house (with a courtyard garden), I'm trying to think positive. So, in the smaller garden the 10+ David Austins we have now -combined with a few climbing roses planted by the previous owner - should make for a more intense scent 🤞

SCENTED. I am always so disappointed when there’s no smell, no matter how stunning the rose is!

BeaLola · 21/05/2025 19:40

Scented always

I only have a few in my garden that aren't David Austin

Any roses that makes it into my small garden that don't have much scent are either ones given to me as gifts from family /dear friends , or there are a couple I have added either to mark something eg we have Rememberance to mark something personal to DH and myself or they were just so beautiful I bought them anyway

This is BlueMoon - added gir colour and scent

Scented. Last year I was sad to have to take out a 25 year old box ball by my front door( ravaged by blight and moth). In its place I planted 2 Eustacia Vye David Austin roses, I've got loads of other DA roses elsewhere in the garden and you get the lovely scent as you pass, but as these are right by the door I get the scent every time I go in and out. The flowers are absolutely beautiful and combined with the scent makes a perfect rose..

Scented. I have quite a few scented roses. This is one of my favourites.

Everyone prefers scented, it's one of the things roses are known for after all, "A rose by any other name would smell as sweet".

As a general thing it's often quite hard to find out if there are scented cultivars of some flowers, and even if they are scented you don't always notice outside unless it's particularly heady. I bought a beautiful viola (Rebecca) at a stately home recently and left it in our utility room overnight, the next morning the room was full of the scent of the viola. But now it's planted outside you don't really notice it.

DeanElderberry · 24/05/2025 10:49

I've just bought two dark purple petunias, purely for the scent. It seems to have been lost in all the other colours.

Mine has opened today! I don’t know its type, was a random buy out of somewhere cheap, but it’s a very delicate plant so it’s always iffy whether the buds make it to bloom. The scent is so lovely, I couldn’t resist cutting one to keep on the countertop. Unfortunately someone else is enjoying its leaves at the moment… Hmm🐛

Scented of course! One of my favourite things to do is to potter round the garden sniffing and deadheading the roses. My new rose is a David Austin Dannahue which smells really lovely, quite unusual. 'Zesty, with scents of lemon, lychees and fresh apricots' says the David Austin site.
