Suitable pot for small wisteria plant

I recently bought a small wisteria from sainsbury's but can't plant it out due to my pet rabbits. I understand it's lethal to them, so I guess my only option is to find a pot for it.

Any suggestions on what is suitable? And would it survive even ;(

Wisteria doesn't generally do well in pots. I would gift it to a friend or take it back or maybe could you plant it in your front garden instead where the rabbits can't go?

Wisteria is lethal to any animal. However, I’ve never known one to eat it, as most animals don’t eat toxic plants. That’s why you see tall ragwort in the middle of fields, horses won’t eat it.

Laburnum is more toxic than wisteria.

Also daffodils, hydrangeas, lilies, rhododendrons, tulips, monkshood, foxgloves, ivy, aquilegia, rhubarb, lupins, cotoneaster, laurel…

If you grown shrubs and flowers, it’s a good bet some are toxic. For safety it’s best to restrict where your rabbits can graze to a lawned area.

Thanks will rethink. The garden outside inly has a small strip for planting and is very shallow.

I could perhaps get some wire to protect the plant

I have a wisteria and it's sensational - but it's been planted (in the ground) for nearly 30 years and took a few to get established. I'd be surprised if it will do much in a pot.
I also have a dog and he's never been interested in it - although when he was a puppy I did clip the lower branches so he couldn't reach them.

Does Wisteria need support? As in, does it climb? Or can you just plant it againt a wall to just "lean on" ?

I have two in very big pots. Both are Amethyst Falls variety. The first is at the front of the house S facing. It’s been ok for 3 years and flowers, but I don’t expect it to reach any great height. I can’t plant it in the ground because a large pipe goes across ( the old) house.
The second is the what I thought failed first one from the front, I repotted it into a large 3ft tall planter just in case it was alive and it’s thriving. It grows through an obelisk and currently has some flower buds.
I don’t know how long either will last, but I’m ‘a never give up on a plant’ type of gardener!

You need support wires for a wisteria.
