What should I plant here?

Hi,

I have this very small patch at the front of my house, and I am unsure what I should plant there. It's currently full of dirt and rocks, and is less than 10cm wide. It gets full sun in the morning, and is shaded in the afternoon.

I am new to gardening, and I'm just looking for something to make the spot look a bit nicer.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I’m no expert, but the gap seems so narrow that I’d think several pots in front would be better than planting into it, I can’t imagine that many plants liking that set up, but could be wrong.

I agree with @Jollyjoy but you could try things like thyme, aubretia or Erigeron

Personally I wouldn’t bother planting that gap up - i’d fill it with bigger stones/gravel the same colour as the slabs.

If you really want plants, alpines would have the best chance of surviving there. Something small and compact that doesn’t want to spread like sedums.

It’s too small a gap for anything to grow except all the weeds you don’t want to grow 😂 I doubt there is any soil and it won’t get much water as it is in the rain shadow of the house.

I agree with putting pots there if you want something there. You could try poking some nasturtium seeds in there or some Erigeron. Fleabane grows in every nook and cranny here, everywhere you don’t want it but never where you plant it 😂

I would stick some Erigeron in there. It will love it, suppress the weeds and look really pretty all summer.

Poppy seeds - they grow anywhere

Erigeron definitely. They grow in the smallest gaps in rocks.
