Artificial grass with dog

WorthyOtter · 01/05/2025 21:03

Were in the process of laying artificial grass. Our dog destroyed the grass we had so we've resorted to this. We've removed all the grass, dug down 10cm, and laid the weed membrane stuff. We're seeing conflicting things online about the next steps. Can anyone who's laid grass with a dog let us know what you steps you took next? Thanks

Love my fake grass, so easy to clean up after my 2 large dogs. It has been down 3 years and still looks good and does not smell. You need to ensure you have the correct drainage for the base, eg can not just lay on top of soil, need to have compacted type1 then sand and a membrane.

That looks awful and dirty 😂. Nothing nice about it.

Where are the flowers and bugs? Hedgehogs, birds? You know that's our environment you've ruined? I swear that people who do this should pay more for food.

🤣Recyling clothes whilst doing the single most dreadful thing you can do for the environment. You clearly are not environmentally aware.

There are big health concerns about fake grass being used in sports venues.

As I said balance.

No amount of clothes recycling will counteract the environmental damage you are doing with plastic grass. So no balance at all.

But it's ok to have a fully concreted/gravel garden? Or is artificial grass ok as long as you have plants/flowers? 🤔

Plastic grass is horrible and always makes me think of ‘crazy golf’

It looks too artificial and sterile to me, but each to their own.

Where are the plants?

How rude!
Use your eyes there are plants there. It is obviously a big space and not all of is showing. Are you jealous?

What you said about that posters garden is so rude.
Please put a picture of your garden up or maybe not as probably will be copy and paste.
We are having a adult conversation on it no need to be nasty and personal about others peoples home.
The poster was very generous to let us see this area and I think it looks great.

You haven’t shown us your garden yet?

What a strange comment!

a desert has more life
looks like a parking lot

I’ve never seen a parking lot look so beautiful then. Don’t be so rude. Put a picture of your garden up so we can all see all the life in it? What a pathetic comment. Jealous of this I think as it looks like the poster has some money and knows how to keep things clean.
Maybe you should take some pointers.

daffodilandtulip · 04/05/2025 09:44

I wonder if it's to do with quality or brand. Or how often you wash it. NDN dog does all his toileting out there and it absolutely stinks. It's a bright green cheap piece, that he laid himself. But also, he picks the poo up once a week and chucks a bucket of water over it now and again.

I like crazy golf.
Are you familiar with it then as wouldn’t want you going back on your principles going to a crazy golf venue??

NeilDiamondsBlowDry · 04/05/2025 09:55

I have not played crazy golf for many years (since i was a child !) but I have seen them and they always have plastic grass, hence I always think crazy golf when I see it. It’s an association in my head.

I do play golf as an adult though and the grass is verdant and beautiful, it’s real grass

Well done

I did my own a couple of years ago . I did loads of research. Once you have dag down . Put weed membrane a good thick one. Down . You then need granite dust. Then the grass on top.

Do not put any membrane on top. As when dog wees it will sit in the plastic any eventually dry and crystallise. It will the smell really strongly of dog wee.

Do not use sand as that also holds onto the dog wee. Mot does not drain as well as granite dust.

My garden. We back on to a railway line hence the "prison fence".

Your garden is very beautiful and I am glad for you and anyone else on here who’s garden looks like this. Can’t fault it.
Just have a problem with other people on here criticising people in a nasty way about having a fake lawn and not taking accountability for all the things they do.

It is very nice. But do you have a dog? We've planted flowers already, but the grass is an issue. Imagine your beautiful garden being all patchy and muddy. It's depressing to look at

It's weird I've never heard anything bad about fake grass IRL. Everyone who has it loves it. Only on here.

Yeah I think people braver to say what they really think behind a fake name.
Unfortunately there are a lot of people who can be nasty or trolls or hypocritical.

No dog. I like dogs, but don't want the responsibility of owning one.

It looks like the picture on a LEGO set box.

To me anyway. All plastic and concrete. Nothing living.
