Lobelia Bush blue - annual or perennial?

This was an impulse purchase from Aldi as it was less than £2 and I liked the look of them. Does anyone know if they are annuals or perennials?

Grown as annuals - probably labelled as “bush” to distinguish it from trailing Lobelias.

Annuals but totally worth the churn. I love lobelia.

They are annuals, and their sole purpose in life is to flower like crazy, set seed to perpetuate their kind, and then die.

I love them! Especially the blues and purples! That is the bush variety which is good for edging and there is also a pendula variety that hangs over the side of pots. Annuals but very easy to look after and flowers beautifully for quite a long period of time.

Thank you all, I also purchased some bargain pots of petunias so will combine both to make a summer planter for the patio.

Are these geraniums also annuals?

Ahh so if I plant in borders I could get new plants next year?

They are, they’re actually pelargoniums (true geraniums are perennial) but shops often still call them geraniums.

If you can pot them up inside over winter they will survive - my mum has some she puts in her conservatory in the autumn and they’ve been flowering for ages! She’ll put them out as soon as the frosts are over.

Your lobelia might self seed, but I’ve never had much luck with that. I just buy a couple of trays each year and let them go mad - they’re very cheery! The trailing ones are lovely in hanging baskets or at the edges of large pots.
