Honeysuckle or passion flower?

Have a star jasmine meant to cover part of a fence that’s not grown much.

Am going to replace it with evergreen honeysuckle or deciduous passion flower and wonder which would be better?

Honeysuckle is winning as it’s evergreen and flowers smell nice but passion flower is tempting for its fast growth and pretty flowers although I’m told they don’t favour northern weather (I’m in Scotland).

Any advice welcome

I'm in Scotland too and grew a passion flower in the greenhouse many years ago. It only lasted a season (but that could have been me). I have much more success with honeysuckle but find it does need keeping in check. It's a good doer though.

Why not have both? I have both climbing together, they seem happy enough

Sounds good but wondering if the passion flower will struggle…

Honeysuckle! I love both but… I kill passion flowers really easily for some reason. Honeysuckles are wonderful and varied and seem to thrive no matter how much neglect I throw at them.

Honeysuckles are great but not if the soil's too dry. They like Scotland and native ones grow pretty much everywhere. Passion flowers not so much. They have great flowers but never enough to make a good show.

Going against the grain I'd go passion flower for coverage- bigger glossy leaves even if you don't get many flowers. But I'm further south than you and mine doesn't lose its leaves in winter. Honeysuckle I love but prefer scrambling into trees than against a fence.

Like the idea of it twined into a tree. I do like the fragrance. May go for fence and trees!

Here it is, there's a very vigorous peony underneath so it's a riot of colour at times

Honeysuckle will survive a nuclear winter. A particularly chilly wind seems to finish a passion flower off! But both lovely.

Of the 3 I really love star jasmine best of all. How long since you planted it? Any reason it hasn’t grown much. Does it get enough sun?

That looks lovely! Is the passion the darker leaves?

Hard to say. It’s in a sunny spot. Just dug it up and put in a pot and the roots weren’t that well developed although maybe that’s typical?
The leaves always look a bronze colour and I can’t recall it flowering.
