What can I do here?

So I’ve just spent the day uncovering this in my garden… it was covered over with moss and grass.. what can I do with this myself, that’s cheap and cheerful, other than pressure washing, de-weeding etc…something nice and bright. ps.. it’s quite uneven and slopey in parts..

ps. I am not a gardener so have no clue where to start!

Is it just a corner? You could grow moss in it and add a bird bath, low maintenance but more purposeful looking?

Take out a few of the smaller crazy paving slabs and plant thyme. In between all the rest, I'd filll the gaps with horticultural grit, which is smaller than gravel.

I saw this pic and loved it. Asked my friend she hates it!

i Like the thyme idea, as long as it’s cat friendly! I’ve actually just removed a load of horticultural grit (didn’t know it was called that!) off there. Hate the stuff and neither does my lawnmower!! Lol

Is it somewhere you walk over or could be avoided? Full sun/shade/partial sun?

I like the idea of removing a few pavers and adding herbs. DON'T plant mint in it though, because it can become very invasive!

Lobelia is another small flower like mini daisy or other rockery type flowers would add some colour.

Chairoverthere · 20/04/2025 18:38

If it is a small area you could also pick up the slabs and simply replace with more lawn seed

Dontsayyouloveme · 20/04/2025 18:38

It’s not in a corner at all.. it’s a semi circle shape! Not sure I should invite birds being a cat owners but appreciate the nice idea 🥰

Another idea is to lift the pavers and replace with flowers, shrubs, fruit tree in the centre- but depends on the orientation, sunlight etc.

its Both tbh! One end, not pictured, is in complete shade and easily avoided, the other is in the sun and likely to be trodden on at times by son after his football!

As PP, plant creeping thyme or chamomile.

I would take some of it up and plant thyme, mind your own business and fleabane.

OMG! I have to admit that I thought you were being rude to someone up thread and I had no idea what you were talking about!

Having never heard of a plant called 'mind your own business' and then 'fleabane'. Strangely, fleabane is the 'mini daisy' plant I had in mind when I posted, but had no idea it was called that! 😳
