Is a bench in the front garden nice or scruffy?

We live in a nice little neighbourhood think cup de sac upon cup de sac type of area, we have a lovely front garden space with a pickit fence, I was thinking to put a little bench out there under the window, I do have a 1 year old so she could run around and I sit there with her, we do also have a back garden. Just wondering if it’s nice or council estate thing to do?

I think that's lovely (but stop with the snobbiness!)

If you lived in Denmark/Sweden it would be seen as perfectly normal

I have a bench in my front garden. Why would it be a council house thing??

Council estate thing?

Does your back garden not get much sun? I'm not sure why you'd let a toddler loose in a front garden with access to a road, even if it is a cul de sac.

It’s a fenced garden whilst I’m there watching her I don’t see the issue? It’s not like she’d be out there by herself

Sorry I really don’t mean to sound snobby at all I personally like it hence why I’m considering putting one out there

Words fail me….perfectly decent hardworking people live in council properties , your comment shows lack of intellect , as my Nan would say fur coat and no knickers … is your name Hyacinth by any chance ? You can’t buy class .

I’m planning to put a bench in my front garden under the kitchen window!
But I do live in a council house 🤷‍♀️

Council Estate? ….. grabs the 🍿

Cul de sac

It is nice, you're right. I love my seating area in the front garden. But then mine's on a council estate. So I guess it can be both...

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 13/04/2025 00:36

I would do this if there was nice sun trap in my imaginary front garden.

And if by council estate you mean friendly, people say hi to each other, children know the other children and play with them and it's safe to play out, then how lovely to join in with traditions like that

ForFunGoose · 13/04/2025 00:36

A garden bench in the front garden is a lovely way to interact with neighbours.

The council estate comment was unnecessary OP but I’m choosing not to roast you for it.

We live in a small cul de sac too and when our neighbour put his house in the market he asked if he could borrow a bench from our (back) garden to put under his front window.
His estate agent had suggested it, along with a few plants in pots. (His garden looked perfectly fine already but the bench and pots did add a little something.)
