Best place for cheap plants

I am looking for some cheap colourful plants to brighten up a few pots. Our local garden centres are really expensive and I am wondering where people are currently finding bargins. Are any supermarkets better than others for plants? What about shops like The Range? Any other ideas?

I also need some herbs, do people have much luck in getting the potted ones in supermarkets to grow?

The best places to find cheap plants are local nurseries, farmers’ markets, and big-box stores Sassa Status Check like Home Depot, Lowe’s, or Walmart, which often have seasonal sales and clearance sections. Online marketplaces such as Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, or Etsy also offer budget-friendly options, especially from local sellers or small growers.

It will be worth going to garden centres at the moment, as they may well have a fair amount of summer bedding that hasn't sold yet, and they'll want to shift it asap.
Someone on a thread once coined the brilliant term 'search and rescue table' and you can often get some really good bargains if you keep looking. I've had some really good stuff very cheap, and it soon picks up with some tlc.

Nobody’s mentioned Morrisons that I can see. Ours has a good outdoor area devoted to plants including some larger shrubs and trees all at good prices

Look on Facebook for plant sales, we have a local one the scouts do which is incredible and such bargains compared to buying in a shop.

Best to try from springtime onwards. Although, right now it's time for gardeners to tidy up their gardens and prepare them for winter. That goes for splitting their perennials too. In my area, we have a plant swap (or anything gardening-orientated) that we have on a quarterly basis. People bring their spares/gluts/seeds/mags/houseplants too. Also, ask on FB locally, or find a FB gardening group locally to ask for plants too. Most people would be happy to part with their spares for free. ATM, I have Japanese anemone, cephalaria gigantea and some salvias to split and give away.
