Grass seed

Last autumn I scarified my lawn and sowed seed on two occasions on my year old turf( not the best quality) laid by my builder
The soil is heavy clay, and the autumn was very wet. It did not germinate
Two weeks ago, I raked the moss out with a lawn rake, spread a thin covering of top soil over the lawn and sowed grass seed, I have lightly watered most days and nothing. Can anybody tell me what I am doing wrong PLEASE.

Might need to be a little more patient. I did some about this time last year. I think in the end it took about 3/4 weeks to start to get going, by two weeks I remember it was the same as yours- nothing happening. So see how it is in a week or two I reckon.

You need good seed to soil contact for the seed to grow. You will lose quite a lot if you just scatter the seed over the topsoil.

You may have been better off sowing the seed first, then spreading the topsoil, and running over it with a drag mat or lawn lute.

Also, the type of seed you used will make a difference to how quickly it germinates.

As @Lonelycrab crab says, it may still be germinating.

When in Autumn?
We had some very frosty nights early on, too cold and the seed will not germinate.

Likewise now.
Little over a week ago we had frosts.
Only 2-nights ago it was barely above zero when I let Ddogs out for their morning business.

Unnaturally warm March days do not necessarily mean it is ok to seed.
Also as PP's said, seed can take a while so patience may be required.

In the past, I had good experience covering newly sown seed with clear polythene sheet.
Protected from frost, created condensation and increased daytime warmth. Had visible evidence of germination within a week
