Pretty flower popped up in lawn but never seen it before

There is a small cluster of these flowers in my lawn. I haven’t planted them and I’ve never seen them in my lawn before. Does any one have any idea what they are? Been googling but not finding it.

It’s not a great photo, but it could be a cuckoo flower, I think?

JohnTheRevelator · 26/03/2025 17:12

According to my plant identifier app,it's an anemone belandieri.

JohnTheRevelator · 26/03/2025 17:14

More commonly known as a tenpetal thimbleweed.

JohnTheRevelator · 26/03/2025 17:16

Sorry - spelt it wrong! It's berlandieri,I missed an 'r' out.

Get the free Flora Ingognita app! It’s brilliant for flowers and trees!

It also looks very like a hyacinth that’s not quite formed properly - it’s the leaves and petal shape/formation that makes me think this. Looks like the bulb had come up not quite ‘blind’, where there’s no flower, but not fully formed either.

Hyacinths typically bloom at this time of year and have a strong fragrance - does this?

Do you have hyacinths anywhere else in the garden?

ApolloandDaphne · 26/03/2025 17:34

My plant app says it's a hyacinth.

ADifferentSong · 26/03/2025 18:13

It’s an anemone and they spread by seed. This is the perfect time for them. If you don’t have any that you planted yourself they’ve probably blown in from a neighbouring garden.

sellotapechicken · 26/03/2025 18:14

You can take a photo and use google lens to find out what it is

NanTheWiser · 26/03/2025 21:18

My first thought was a Hyacinth with its leaves cut off.

100PercentFaithful · 26/03/2025 22:12

Rosy garlic?

Geneticsbunny · 27/03/2025 08:28

I don't know what it is but it definitely isn't an anemone. The plant identifier apps only give you a best guess and can get it wrong, so you have to Google pics of what it says the plant is and look at detailed pics of the shape of the plant, leaves and flowers to check it.

I think it looks like something related to a bluebell but I would want to wait till it has grown a bit to be sure. I assume the leaves don't smell oniony?
