Help me save my garden!

Help! My garden is an absolute eyesore. It’s west facing and the grassy area directly in front of the patio doors (to the left) is patchy and dead as it never really gets any sun there.

If this was your garden, what would you do? I was thinking of digging up the gravel area on the right and putting it to lawn again, but other than that, I’ve no idea! I have young-ish DC and a dog, and I do not want artificial grass.

Please give me inspiration for privacy as well, as it is quite an overlooked garden! Flowers / hedging / decking / pergola/ anything - hit me with ideas!

Something like this?
Extended patio, clearly defined lawn; deeper planting beds at the corners and along the sides; a small summerhouse facing south.
In such a compact garden, every tree and most shrubs would have some year-round interest, either evergreen, or bearing winter berries, or of architectural interest (such as hydrangea seed heads). Dwarf spring and autumn flowering bulbs.
For plants with a shorter season of interest, plant in pots and rotate them round to a prominent position when in flower.

Perhaps you could put something like this where your little cafe table is. You could plant a rose, honeysuckle or jasmine each side which would grow up and give you a bit more privacy, as well as lovely scent.

The first thing I'd do, while I considered doing anything else, is to plant climbers on your fences -- they take up little space, they add scent and colour and beauty, and they will make anything you do with the rest of the garden look better.

Thank you all so much! @brambleberries - I LOVE your design! I will show my DH. Thank you for the time and effort to draw that - it looks fab and has given me hope for what it could look like! 🌸

Honestly, I think it just needs a refresh. New patio, grass and fence, with some new garden furniture and plants would work wonders.
