Can I use ratty compost?

I had rats in my compost bin over winter. I saw a huge one going in and then saw the telltale tunnels whenever I chucked a few new bits in (quite rare over winter as I didn’t want to feed the rats and also I’m too wimpy to venture out there in the cold and rain!)

Can I still use the compost?

I was thinking it would be fine for putting around the roses and flower beds but most of the raised beds and pots I want to top up are for veg.

Would it be okay for raised beds where the food isn’t on the ground such as runner beans and tomatoes? I’m guessing it’s a no for things like topping up strawberry beds or where I’m growing lettuce or root vegetables

Wha do you think?

(I have a second compost bin next to it which they’ve probably been through but haven’t actually nested in like the first - would this one be as bad?)

flowers and the like yes, but not for veg or fruit due to contamination

In all honesty I use it for everything, but I'm pretty relaxed. I'd definitely use it for non-edibles and for edibles off the ground. I do get rats in my compost but find they tend to move on pretty quickly if I disturb it by turning it or stirring it up a bit.

It's common to have rats around compost bins. Wouldn't bother me at all.
